The purpose of the Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) course

is to ensure that individuals with a duty to respond

(public safety professionals and healthcare providers)

have the requisite knowledge and skills to care for patients who are experiencing respiratory arrest, 

cardiac arrest, or airway obstruction.

The emphasis is on providing high-quality care integrating psychomotor skills with the skills of critical thinking, problem solving and team dynamics to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Course Content:

* Describe the importance of high-quality CPR

   (breathing and compressions) and its impact on survival

* Describe all of the steps of the Chain of Survival and apply the BLS concepts

   of the Chain of Survival

* Recognize the signs of someone needing CPR

* Perform CPR for adults, children and infants

* Describe the importance of early use of an AED and demonstrate its use

* Provide effective ventilations by using a barrier device

* Describe the importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation and

   perform as an effective team member during multi-rescuer CPR

* Describe the technique for relief of foreign-body airway obstruction

   (choking) for adults and infants

Course Options and Length: approximately 5 hours.

The time is based upon a 6 student.

For class of more than 6 students, additional time may be needed.

Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Renewal

For participants with a current professional-level CPR/AED certification

The time is approximately 3 hours. Current certification must be provided.

BLS for Healthcare Providers does not include First Aid.

The First Aid Portion can be added.

There is an additional charge and more time is required.
